Day 3 - Friday, Feb. 13
The next day we headed out again with the kids to look at more cars. We looked at one that we had seen parked along the side of the road and the owner was there. He was a little too interested in getting rid of it quickly, so we decided to wait on test driving it and go look at one that Tom had a good feeling about. We drove out toward Hoover Dam, and it ended up being the one we bought. We didn't look at anything else. It's a 1984 Suburban, blue and white, and the guy took impeccable care of it. He and his wife had retired to Las Vegas from California and had just bought a new truck to haul their boat with, so didn't need it anymore. It has a ton of new stuff on it, and the only thing that doesn't work is the windshield wiper pump, which he probably didn't realize, as he probably rarely needed to use it since it rains about once or twice a year in Vegas. He even has water in the reservoir rather than antifreeze stuff, so we'll have to drain it before it freezes!
We ended up running around trying to corral our money to pay for it, as we had to pay cash and ESL had held the check we had deposited because it was personal. We ended up borrowing cash from Gary and writing *him* a check. Argh. What a PITA.
Anyway, we ended up heading out to Hoover Dam , which was very cool. We walked quite a ways and the kids were troopers about it, although probably glad to be out of the car and not looking at used cars anymore! We learned quite a bit about the dam and Emma was fascinated that she could stand in two states at once (Arizona and Nevada) and be in two different time zones. She said it made her feel funny.
