Weekend antics

On Saturday we went to Tom's cousin's wedding. It was great. The 2 seconds of it that I saw, anyway ;). It was very short for a Catholic wedding, but Jude had to be taken out about 2 seconds after it started, so I didn't see any of it. We went to the reception and it was lovely. We got to hang out with our whole family and Jude and the girls had fun. Emma drank champagne for the first time and thought it was nasty. They were so tired, they fell asleep on the way home.

Yesterday we were supposed to have the LCG fall equinox festival, but we got rained out, so we went back to homeschool shopping for the girls. In the morning I went through all of their clothes with them, only to find out that Emma had grown out of just about everything, and Soren is almost the same size as her, so we made a big list and took off for Target.

We spent an obscene amount of money, but I can't let them run around w/o clothes.

Emma got 3 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of jeans, a winter coat, snowpants, new snowboots (which are WAY cool), socks, underwear, half dozen long-sleeved shirts, go-go boots (hers aren't Bratz, but are similar to this), a robe, and 3 turtlenecks.

Soren got half dozen pair of tights, 2 new dresses (which I had to go to Gymboree for - apparently dresses are no longer in. I could only find mix and match skirts and tops!), a skirt and top, 2 pairs of jeans, a pair of bolero pants, ballet style dress shoes, underwear, a lock for her locker at gymnastics, and other sundries.

It took us all afternoon. Then we went out to dinner. I am still in shock at how much money we spent ;). After having NONE last week (negative, actually) and then Tom got paid, so we spent the whole child support check this month on clothes. Eek!

Oh, and I also got a verrrry sexy top at Hot Topic ;).

They are thrilled though and had so much fun :). It was definitely worth it, and they're outfitted for the winter, (I hope). Soren will probably need new boots before year's out, but that's OK>

Today we're going to the library for baby storytime and to get books out. Tom might even go, because it's pouring here and he can't work on the fence that he's building and doesn't have inside work lined up.

Then Emma has her new mother's helper gig this afternoon and then we're off to a long night at the gym.

TGIF

I have worked hard this week. It's been busy and I've worked a lot of hours at the gym. The weekend is busy too. Wedding and then a potluck on Sunday afternoon. Girls are having an overnight tonight at Danielle and Mike's.

Today Soren had therapy and it went great. She is just about ready to take a break. It's amazing how a small amount of therapy makes so much difference to kids! They don't have all that baggage and crap like adults too. She is getting some coping mechanisms and dealing with things much better. I hope it continues!

I got her a scooby doo punching bag last night to hit when she's got so much frustration.

In other retail therapy news, I got Jude a bumblebee costume for Halloween, monkey toe socks for Emma and a bunch of batteries and toothpaste. I love Big Lots! They had Tom's of Maine toothpaste for $1.49 a tube! Holy cow, man.

Soren's FTTS today when I almost hit a squirrel while driving. "Mom, I think squirrels are mindless." Heh.

One year checkup

Jude has his one year checkup yesterday. He's truly a toddler now.

He weighed almost 21 lbs. and was almost 30" tall. He's in the 50th percentile for both now, so his growth (at least height) has slowed down a bit. Those short genes of mine kicking in I guess!

Everytbing was fine. He is developmentally right on target for speech, motor skills, etc. Now if only he would sleep a bit more.

He's also nursing less during the day, and last night Tom was able to get him to sleep a couple of times and I didn't even wake up. Of course my breasts are very full this morning.

Birthday Cake

You want me to do what with this?

Weird

In a weird twist of fate, Emma just got stung by a bee. She got stung by a bee as I was pushing Jude out almost to the hour a year ago.

Birthday Boy

Happy happy happy birthday Jude! A year ago, I was just calling the midwife! I will post a picture of him enjoying his birthday cake later :). We got the cutest e-card from a friend this morning AND yesterday he got a HUGE box from Laura. A very very loud thank you, Laura! The clothes are beautiful and we had so much fun unpacking them and imagining how cute he will be in them when it cools off a bit here.

A year...how did it happen?

It is amazing that these little beings go from totally helpless little beans to these sturdy toddlers who want to do it themselves in twelve short months. I contrast Jude today to my friend's baby (born a month ago) and it's nothing short of miraculous.

Monday, Monday

Yesterday we spent most of our homeschooling time playing Monopoly. We are going to try to finish our game today. Then we went and had a playdate with my friend Wendy and her twins and baby. The kids swam and made a boat out of the lid of their turtle sandbox ;). Wendy talked to me about the co-op that she is trying to get me to join, but it's too much money and meets on Wednesdays, which I like to reserve for Camp Arrowhead when I can afford it (not this session!).

Then we went to the gym. The kids had two hours to play and Emma helped me calm down a very distraught 3 yo who was not into separating from mama. She is amazing.

Soren had a great practice on bars, according to Rita. Not so great on floor.

Emma is embracing being a "veteran" Level 4. She's doing a great job, but having trouble remember the new floor and beam routines.

I'm back

I'm back from PA. After all sorts of perambulations to get subs for work, I left Thursday afternoon and got to the hospital around 5:30 p.m. I stopped to see my dad first, and we had a great visit. He was very forgetful but very appropriate and actually got down on the floor and played with Jude, which is something he hasn't EVER done. Wow. It made me happy/sad. I also stopped in yesterday on my way out of town and had another wonderful visit. Jude sat on his lap and played with him for a long time and we talked about the Penn State football game that was on (go PSU!) and just chatted. Jude cheered up a lot of the folks that were there.

There is one man that just came that has Alzheimers and it is so sad. He doesn't understand that he's living there now and carries his clothes around with him trying all the doors over and over again because he wants to go home :(.

My mom is still in the hospital. I am appalled at the level of nursing care there. I raised all sorts of (polite) hell while I was there - on the cardiac floor she had a spell and lost control of her bladder and they didn't change the bed until the next morning when I called and bitched. On the medical floor, she had a horrible headache (which she had a CT Scan for, which came back normal) and didn't get pain meds for 10 hours. *10* hours. I was furious. The nurse was new and young and full of herself. I intend to file a written complaint about her.

My mom's roommate has CP and is nosy as hell. I was ready to scream at her to just stfu about 100 times. My mom is really used to being alone and doesn't like nosy questions as it is. I don't know how she stands it.

Anyway, she's still ther - diagnosed tentatively w/ anxiety and on Ativan and Zoloft, but also still feeling really sick. Now leaning toward diabetes issues that have been outstanding, so should see her endocrinologist Monday morning. She gave me a guilt trip about coming home this morning when I called. (I came home yesterday; Jude is still recovering from his cold and I am starting a sinus infection, wooboy, can you say fun?). I feel badly, but the girls had a 4 day weekend w/ their dad last weekend and I really wanted to spend one day this weekend having a day off, being able to do stuff around the house and hang out w/ the kids w/o rushing around.

Anyway, we're home.

The best part of the trip was staying at Erica's. Our friend Laura came over on Friday night and we drank wine and laughed a LOT. I love having wonderful girlfriends. Thanks again Erica :).

out of town

If I owe you an email or something, I'm off to PA. My mom was admitted to hospital on Tuesday with heart problems. She may need laser surgery or a pacemaker. I was able to finagle getting 2 days off at work.

Think good thoughts!

First Un-Day of School

Thanks Mimi! How is the baby walking going? Jude does more every day.

Laura, we're just now feeling caught up from being away - I can't imagine if we had been gone for 2 weeks!

I've started posting over at my homeschooling blog again. I'm trying to be very organized about our time so I don't feel like I'm wasting a ton of it. It will be interesting to see if we can keep it up.

Jude ran a fever yesterday and is better today but has diarreah. Poor guy. His tummy is all gurgly. I'm trying to get him to eat some more yogurt. He didn't eat anything yesterday but he nursed a lot. Thank goodness for breastfeeding.

Tom hurt his back somehow and is really in a lot of pain. I wish he's go see the massage therapist or the chiro or something but of course he won't, because he's stubborn.

My friend Jenny and I went to Taste of India last night. it was great! We had about 3 weeks of catching up to do and we enjoyed every minute of it.

Anyway, Jude is mad because the girls went downstairs so I must go!
