Birthday and moving!
Yesterday was Soren's birthday. I think we did a bangup job, although I apparently went a bit overboard with gifts, out of guilt about moving and not throwing a party with all of Soren's friends, of which she has exactly none, except for the twins, because we just moved. :::sigh:::
She got a birthday crown at school, they announced her birthday over the loudspeaker during morning announcements and she got a birthday pencil and cookie! I think it's pretty cool that they make such a big deal out of it.
I picked her up from school and came back to the house to meet Danielle and the boys and all of us went to the mall in Greece to get Soren's ears pierced. While we there I mused that we needed one of those daycare ropes that they make daycare kids hold on to while out on walks or field trips, because keeping all 4 kids together was impossible!
The mall is huge, and there's even a carousel in the middle, outside JC Penney's. Santa was there already too. I really want to go back one day next week and wander around and see what all is there.
Anyway, Soren picked out little flower earrings with a blue stone in the middle, and I bought Emma some new earrings, since like her mom, she loses a pair just about every day. Also, I'm going to have to look into getting her some 14K gold ones, as her one ear keeps getting infected. Yuck! I picked up some new nose studs for myself too - a flower like Soren's earrings, but with a pink stone, so we can match ;).
Tommy, Danielle's son, LOVES pink and shiny things too, so he bought some earrings for himself and wore them on his shirt as pins :).
We came back and made Soren's requested dinner of pierogies, which I made totally unhealthy by cooking them with a ton of butter and onions, but everyone loved them ;). Then we had corn and salad. I also made a cake with Halloween orange icing and sprinkles. Soren pretty much iced the cake herself and did a great job.
Then we opened the skillion gifts she got, and she really loved everything.
Let's see what else has been going on. Oh, still on the Soren topic, she hates school. She is fine once leave, but we're right back to her freaking out every morning like she used to at her preschool. It really sucks. I'm hoping that once she is riding the bus next week that it will go better. Her teacher is very sweet and patient though and has been very encouraging. I also am setting things up so she can have some appointments with the school counselor. Emma has adjusted quite well and although she doesn't like it as much as the Friends School, she seems to be doing well. She has a lot more homework though! I met her teacher this morning and she just *gushed* over what a great kid Emma is :::proud mama smile::::.
I'm going to start working at a gym December 1, being the staff coordinator. This poor guy needs help desperately and even though it's not the gym I wanted to work at, being the kind of person I am, I couldn't let him down.
I'm still working for Danielle a bit, although she doesn't need a whole lot of help once I get her office organized. I am going to start looking for a writing job in the next couple of weeks. I'm missing the newspaper desperately.
Tom's back is still all screwed up, and I made him go to the massage therapist on Wednesday which helped a bit but without a couple of weeks off, I don't know how he is going to heal, and he won't take time off, because, and I understand this, we need the money ::sigh::.
Other than that, it's going well. We had a whole day date on Sunday which was lovely. We spent a couple of hours at the huge Barnes & Noble in Pittsford, shopped for Soren's birthday and had dinner at a cute Italian restaurant with wonderful food. We've been meeting for coffee in the mornings after I drop the kids off at school and I drove downtown to check out a dance studio that he was working in on Thursday and we had dinner at a little greek place called Aladdin's, which was wonderful! They even had a wonderful kid's menu, with healthy, non microwaved food, if you can believe that.
My divorce should be final in the next week which is exciting. I don't know when Tom and I will get married. I know we will do a little courthouse thing, but not sure when. I suggested Solstice since that is when this whole thing started last year, but we didn't really discuss it. He was in a lot of pain last night and was quiet and reflective, playing guitar, which I got to sit and relax and enjoy. Evenings are so much nicer with adults to hang out with. I get the kids to bed, put my jammies on and watch some TV or hang out and snuggle with Tom and eat chips and salsa and drink good beer :).
The moving part of this post is that we're driving to PA tonight to get my stuff and move it up here tomorrow. David will have the kids for 6 hours and I need to go visit my dad too. I know we'll be exhausted. Tom has to work on Sunday so I'll be doing a lot of the unpacking myself that day, but with Soren's new birthday gifts, the kids should be able to stay fairly busy while I work on the house.
His mom is going through some moodiness, somewhat around Tom moving out. I'm sure she's nervous not to have him around more, as he's been living with them pretty much since his dad had a stroke. But we'll be very close by, thank goodness.
I think that's about it for what's going on right now. Of course there is more, but I have stuff to do while the girls are in school, so should get to it.
